Thou Shall Not Bear False Witness, Thou Shall not Steal

Ten Commandments God gave to Moses.

Exodus 20:1 (KJV)

“Thou shalt not bear false witness

Also meaning “Thou shalt not lie

Bear false witness is translated from three Hebrew words

“False"

Transliteration: sheqer

Pronunciation: sheh'-ker

Anah Sheqer.

literally means 'to lie' as a witness in a legal case.

“Is not to be a false witness, but the emphasis is on lying”.

Our system is based on Judeo Christian principles.

Deuteronomy 19:16-21 (NIV)

16 If a malicious witness takes the stand to accuse someone of a crime, 17 the two people

involved in the dispute must stand in the presence of the Lord before the priests and the judges

who are in office at the time. 18 The judges must make a thorough investigation,and if the witness

proves to be a liar, giving false testimony against a fellow Israelite, 19 then do to the false

witness as that witness intended to do to the other party. You must purge the evil from among

you. 20 The rest of the people will hear of this and be afraid, and never again will such an evil

thing be done among you. 21 Show no pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand,

foot for foot.

If you accuse someone of something and you brought them to the priest, and they would

investigate it thoroughly, if it proved to be false, then you had to receive the very same

punishment that they would have received had it been true

In marriage, when a person lies to their spouse, they're undermining the foundation of their

marriage friendship and relationship.

A marriage is nothing more than two people making vows to one another in the presence of God

in a religious ceremony

You promise to forsake all others and keep thee only unto him or her, as long as you both shall

live.

The only thing that is binding a married couple together is FAITH.

FAITH that the person you've married will keep the vows that they've made.

When a person lies to their spouse, they’re undermining the foundation of their marriage.

Thou shalt not lie to each other or keep secrets from each other

Eighth Commandment

"Thou shalt not steal".

Thou shalt not steal.

Myth number one.

Being a parent comes first

Children need to grow up in a home where parents are happily married so for that to happen, they

need to put marriage first!

Myth number two is known as parallel lines or living.

Marriage is not a contractual agreement of convenience.

Marriage is a covenant whereby two people are joined to become one, both physically and

spiritually.

Myth number three.

“Your spouse is responsible for making you happy”.

Limerence is a state of being obsessed with another person, characterised by an uncontrollable

desire for their affection.

Your spouse is not responsible for your happiness.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)

‘JOY’

Greek: χαρά

Transliteration: chara

Pronunciation: khar-ah'

khar-ah' in the Greek, it's a form of happiness.

The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives, love, joy, which is khar-ah', which is a form

of happiness, peace.

God is the true source of happiness, not your spouse.

If God can't make you happy, then nobody can!

Fourth Myth - Divorce is an unpardonable sin.

What the church has traditionally taught concerning divorce is not what Jesus taught.

Matthew 19:3-10 (NKJV)

3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, “Is it lawful for a man to

divorce his wife for just any reason?”

4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the

beginning ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father

and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So then, they are no

longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

7 They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her

away?”8 He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to

divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his

wife, except for (fornication),sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and

whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.” 10 His disciples said to Him, “If such is

the case of the man with his wife, it is better not to marry.”

Bet Hillel is more liberal (B. Z. Bacher, Tannaim, 15) and open to foreign influences such as

Persia and Rome, while Bet Shammai rejects all foreign influences and focuses solely on Jewish

tradition (Rosenthal).

When the Pharisees question Jesus in Matthew 19:3, they ask “Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for

any cause?” The key phrase is “for any cause.”

Law Concerning Divorce

24 “When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens that she finds no favor in his eyes

because he has found some uncleanness in her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce,

puts it in her hand, and sends her out of his house, 2 when she has departed from his house, and

goes and becomes another man’s wife, 3 if the latter husband detests her and writes her a

certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends her out of his house, or if the latter husband

dies who took her as his wife, 4 then her former husband who divorced her must not take her back

to be his wife after she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before the Lord, and you shall

not bring sin on the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.

Jesus said....

marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.”

10 His disciples said to Him, “If such is the case of the man with his wife, it is better not to marry.”

1. I don’t love you anymore!

2. We’re not compatible!

3. I have found someone else!

Verses four through six, Jesus went back to God's original intent for marriage.

Matthew 19:4-5

“Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’5 and

said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the

two shall become one flesh’?

Can a man divorce his wife at any cost and if he can't, for any cause, if so, what cause can it be?

Matthew 19:7-8

They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her

away?”8 He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to

divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.

He is telling you that Moses did the right thing.

What Jesus is saying is that in a perfect world, there would never be divorce.

For the Lord God of Israel says

That He hates divorce,

And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall

marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit

adultery.

And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another,

commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.”

According to Jesus except for fornication is justifiable cause for divorce.

NKJV says...

And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, NKJV, fornication

commits adultery.”

Except it be for fornication 'porneia'

Fornication is translated from the Greek word for PORNEIA

Adultery is translated from the Greek word moykhyoo-o -means to commit adultery

Matthew 5:27-28 NKJV

“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you

that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

If Jesus had meant adultery, he would have said adultery and the Greek word moykhyoo-o, would

have been used.

God chose certain words. He chose PORNEIA fornication this word over that word, moykhyoo-o,

adultery

Porneia. actually means licentiousness, which is a disregarding of his rules and standards.

Generally speaking, the church has fostered the misconception that divorce is only justified if

there's been some type of sexual sin. That people that's not true that's not what porneia means.

God has laid down certain rules and standards for marriage. These rules and standards constitute

a covenant.

1 Timothy 5:8 (NIV)

Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has

denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Titus 2:5 (KJV)

to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God

may not be blasphemed.

1 Corinthians 7:5 (NKJV)

5 Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to

fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your

lack of self-control.

The Hebrew word “ervah” It's the Hebrew equivalent of the Greek word porneia.

set her in the midst, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very

act. 5 Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?”

yours? Has no one condemned you?”
