During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. One of them,

named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would

spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.)

Through this prophecy, God revealed that Mary was the mother of the Messiah.

How many of you have ever received a prophecy?

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For

the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they

were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Interpretation

Greek: ἐπίλυσις

Transliteration: epilusis

Pronunciation: ep-il'-oo-sis

simply means to express in your own words.

Private

Greek: ἴδιος

Transliteration: idios

Pronunciation: id'-ee-os

The phrase "idios ep-il'-oo-sis, and "idios" means one's own.

He hath said, which heard the words of God,

And knew the knowledge of the most High,

Which saw the vision of the Almighty,

Falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:

He had four unmarried daughters who had the gift of prophecy. Acts 21:9–12 NLT

Several days later a man named Agabus, who also had the gift of prophecy, arrived from

Judea. He came over, took Paul’s belt, and bound his own feet and hands with it. Then

he said, “The Holy Spirit declares, ‘So shall the owner of this belt be bound by the Jewish

leaders in Jerusalem and turned over to the Gentiles.’ ” When we heard this, we and the

local believers all begged Paul not to go on to Jerusalem.

When the mob saw the commander and the troops coming, they stopped beating Paul.

1. Edify.

2. Exhort.

3. Comfort.

But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and

comfort.1 Corinthians 14:3 KJV 1900

Number 1: Edification which is translated from the Greek οἰκοδομή

Transliteration: oikodomē

Pronunciation: oy-kod-om-ay'

word oikodome, oikodome, and it denotes the act of building.

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some,

pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for

the edifying of the body of Christ: Ephesians 4:11–12 KJV 1900

For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged.

Number 2: Exhortation

Greek: παράκλησις

Transliteration: paraklēsis

Pronunciation: par-ak'-lay-sis

The word is a compound of two Greek roots:

Para: meaning "beside" or "near".

Kaleō: meaning "to call".

Number 3: Comfort

While paraklēsis means "calling alongside to encourage," paramythia is a much softer,

more intimate term.

Literal Meaning: "Speaking Close"

Like many powerful Greek terms, paramythia is a compound word:

Para: meaning "beside" or "near."

Mythos: meaning "speech," "word," or "story."

Three things prophecy is meant to do:

1. Edification. Oikodome -Build substance Oikos house dwelling place- doma, meaning

to build .

2. Exhortation. Paraklesis, strengthgen you.

3. Comfort. Paramythia, soothe you (voice).
