Why Spiritual Gifts Exist Today (16) by Rev Dr Jim Master

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: You know that

you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. Therefore I

make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and

no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:1–11 NKJV

There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are diKerences of ministries, but

the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works

all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to

one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge

through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings

by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another

discerning of spirits, to another diKerent kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation

of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one

individually as He wills. 1 Corinthians 12:1–11NKJV

“The gift of discerning of spirits is a supernatural enablement to discern the character

and identity of spirits.”

verse 10 To another, the working of miracles. To another, prophecy. To

another, discerning of spirits.

Greek: διάκρισις

Transliteration: diakrisis

Pronunciation: dee-ak'-ree-sis

Diakrisis :- means to distinguish between two things.

But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use

have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Hebrews 5:14 NKJV

"discern" is translated from the very same Greek word "diakrisis,

“The gift of discerning in spirits enables a person to discern whether a supernatural

manifestation is of God or not.”Supernatural manifestations originate from one of two sources: either from God

or from the devil.

Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit

of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. This girl

followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most

High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” And this she did for many days.

Acts 16:16–18 NKJV

But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of

Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour.

Acts 16:16–18 NKJV

Greek: δοῦλος

Transliteration: doulos

Pronunciation: doo'-los

Doulos, servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you.

The gift of discerning of spirits detects and exposes Satan's counterfeit operations.

Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit

of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling.

Acts 16:16 NKJV

Greek: Πύθων

Transliteration: Puthōn

Pronunciation: poo'-thone

Divination is translated from the Greek word Puthōn.

The gift of discerning of spirits not only reveals that their manifestations are not of God

but also reveals what kind of demonic spirit they are dealing with.

This gift not only reveals the identity of the spirit, but the character as well.

For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of

Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of

righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

2 Corinthians 11:13–15 NKJV

to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits,

to another diKerent kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

1 Corinthians 12:10 NKJV

This gift is placed (discernment)between the gift of prophecy and the gift of tongues and

tongues and interpretation.Number one. You shall know them by their fruits.

A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.

Matthew 7:18 NKJV

Number two. There is a glorifying, testifying of Jesus.

Number three. Is it scriptural?

Number four. Was it fulfilled?

Number five. Does it point to God or to people?

Number six. Does it produce liberty or bondage?

Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

John 17:17 NKJV

Number seven. Do you have any unction?

Number Eight. and yet it’s not of God.
